Menlo Park City Council Menlo Park City Council,
Dear Menlo Park City Council and Staff,
I’m writing to express my strong support for the updated SRI/Parkline proposal that includes 800 new homes. This project variant has been so thoughtfully designed to meet what seemed like conflicting community demands. It offers some of the most difficult
to plan for deeply affordable housing, a diversity of housing types (the town homes), and abundant market rate and BMR homes. Overall, 31% of the homes in this proposal will be at below market rate rents. As many have said, there is no better place to add
new homes than within walking distance to Burgess Recreation Center, downtown shops and restaurants, the Menlo Park Library, Caltrain, and bus lines!
In addition to helping our city meet public demand and state mandates for more homes–and more deeply affordable homes–the new design reduces traffic on Laurel and improves street safety by limiting access from Laurel to one-way (inward bound) only; the two-story
town homes are located alongside the Burgess Classics neighborhood; and the open community space and landscaping look beautiful. I wish we could have reduced the amount of space dedicated to parking cars, but for some in our community that will be reassuring.
Please advance this version of the project!
