Fwd: SJ MERC: Emeryville 'Quiet Zone' on Tracks

Dear Council and Staff,

I’m forwarding this attached and linked San Jose Mercury News article from earlier this week (6/14) with the great news that the Quiet Zone movement momentum continues in the Bay Area, now with the city of Emeryville well on the way to declaring QZ’s at three consecutive intersections.

It's especially encouraging that Emeryville was able to pull in significant funding for the construction (from the article it appears to be about 75% of the $8.9m total cost)) "from California’s gas-tax funded Trade Corridor Enhancement program, the Alameda County Transportation Commission’s Measure BB and the Alameda County Congestion Management Agency Transportation Improvement Program."

Those of us advocating for the significant quality of life and health improvements for all affected by the train horns every day (and every night!) are truly grateful for your support of a Quiet Zone effort here in Menlo Park. Thank you for continuing to keep this priority moving. We’re eager to begin the next steps towards implementation when Staff shares their recommended consultant in the upcoming weeks.

Best regards,
Maria Amundson
