could we pass a similar Motion in Menlo Park?

This motion was recently passed by the LA County Board of Supervisors:

“To replace high water-need, non-functional grasses and non-native ornamental plants with plants and trees native to California, with the goal of achieving at least 75 percent California native plants and trees in all County-owned landscaping.”

It would be amazing if our local cities would do similarly! Maybe leaving out a percentage, but just pass it as an intention to plant more natives any time there is a choice.

For NEW and replacement trees and shrubs - It may be a good idea to remove non-native lawns, but probably not to rip out existing trees that are healthy and fit our climate.

Thanks for considering!
