Im writing to you today to show my support for Nicole Kemeny to fill a vacancy on the city council from your District 5.
Nicole and I met when I joined the Board of Directors of350 Silicon Valley, a local grassroots climate action organization and affiliate of the international organization 350.org. When the Board President relocated, I nominated Nicole and she became our new Board President in 2016, remaining in that role until 2022. During her tenure as President, 350 Silicon Valley launched numerous very successful programs, including;
* organizing Silicon Valleys support for keeping oil trains from running through the valley to San Luis Obispo,
* establishing a partnership alliance with 15 other like minded climate action groups,
* planning and organizing actions that encouraged major banks to stop financing fossil fuels,
* creating a significant legislative campaign focused on California climate-related laws, and
* organizing local teams in Palo Alto and San Jose working with city councils on climate action and electrification ordinances.
Coupled with Nicoles prior professional experience in urban planning in Chicago, her experience in climate action will be a significant new asset on MPs city council. She is a team player with a solid intellect, an unwavering civic orientation; shes action oriented and is a pleasure to work with on complex projects. Recently, Nicole took a leadership role in solidifying the longer term continued success of 350 Silicon Valley by facilitating the affiliation of our organization with the larger 350 Bay Area association of 7 regional 350.org groups.
