MAYORS OF MENLO PARK

Honorable Mayor Wolosin,

President Joe Biden may be the 47th President, but as it turns out, you are also the 47th person to become the Mayor of Menlo Park, during its nearly 96 year history (1927 - 2023). Congratulations, youre in good company!

In Menlo Parks early years, Mayors often served for many years, such as William Lawson for 12 years, Charles Burgess for 8 years and Ira Bonde for 7 years. As you know, in more recent times, Mayors generally serve for one year, although several mayors served for two years and a few for even three years, such as Billy Ray White, Nicholas Jellins and Richard Cline.

This data and much more are included in an article attached written by a Board Member of the Menlo Park Historical Association (MPHA). We hope you find the article of interest. MPHA is available to you, staff and all members of this wonderful community. For more information, go to http://www.mphistory.org or visit their office located in the lower level of the Library at 800 Alma Street, MP.

As this is Womens History Month, you may find of interest that twelve (12) women have been mayor over the years (out of the total of 47 mayors). They include 1) Peg Gunn, 2) Jan LaFetra, 3) Gail Slocum, 4) Mary Jo Borak, 5) Lee Duboc, 6) Mickie Winkler, 7) Kelly Fergusson, 8) Kirsten Keith, 9) Catherine Carlton, 10) Cecilia Taylor, 11) Betsy Nash and 12) Jen Wolosin.
