Greetings City Council members of the County of San Mateo,

It is my pleasure to introduce myself to you. My name is Hyun-mi Kim, and I am the Director of Community Engagement and Public Policy (CEPP) at Puente. I’ve been working closely with Rita Mancera , Executive Director of Puente, along with other community partners, to find a collaborative voice to address our disappointment in Supervisor Mueller’s no vote on the Sanctuary Policy.
A letter has been co-authored and co-sponsored by Puente, Coastside Hope and Asian Law Caucus to urge Supervisor Mueller to reconsider his vote and halt any efforts to amend the ordinance. It has been reviewed and signed by more than 45 prominent immigrants’ rights organizations and legal service providers, including ACLU, California Immigrant Policy Center, Immigrant Legal Resource Center, Centro Legal de la Raza, NAACP-San Mateo County Chapter, and the Executive Board of San Mateo County Latinx Democratic Club, among many others. We will provide you with an updated list of supporters of our letter at the Board of Supervisors’ meeting on Tuesday, April 25.
We really appreciate your consideration and review of the letter, in order to preserve the ordinance without proposed amendments by Supervisor Mueller.
