Dear City Council,
Yesterday (September 12, 2023), Council held a Study Session on restarting the "Neighborhood Traffic Management Program" due to the publics concerns with unsafe conditions. Staff Report and Presentation.
Public comment was over by the time emergency vehicle access occured to me. I didnt see that aspect included in the staff report. Perhaps I missed it. In case not, I write. Ive heard the former Menlo Park Fire Protection District Fire Chief raise concerns (at a fire board meeting) about speed bumps and how they slow paramedic/fire truck response time. The former Fire Chief wanted the Fire District to give input into these types of planning efforts before a jurisdiction installed speed bumps. I cannot recall more specifics.
Can the Fire Districts input be gathered and considered as part of the planning process? There may be a "sweet spot" (i.e. traffic slowing without impeding fire trucks) or the trade-offs could be more explicitly presented for consideration. .
Sincerely,
Lynne Bramlett
