Honorable Mayor and Council Members:
Blight is defined in many ways, but one property that never, ever should fall into this category is the iconic, historical and very visible CALTRAIN STATION, located next to the railroad tracks.
It currently has ROOF LEAKS, slowly destroying the building. Im told there are roof rats. Deferred maintenance can be seen everywhere. The building is long overdue for a paint job. Worse yet, its been vacant for years with no known use in the foreseeable future.
This is not only sad, its EMBARRASSING. Why? The answer is partly found in its location. As train passengers board and leave trains, each person passes by this property. Its a very busy place, being part of the Menlo Park Transportation Center serving buses, taxis, cars, pedestrians, bicyclists and others.
Can anything be done? Can the CITY encourage Caltrain? Can a Coffee Shop, a History Museum and/or other group occupy it? Can the City help make this happen?
At a minimum, shouldnt there be a FOR LEASE SIGN on it? What are Caltrains plans for it? More questions than answers. Please, please respond.
