Please save the redwood trees in menlo park

Dear Mr.Justin Murphy and the Council,I had heard some very bad news this week that the beautiful trees at the corner of El Camino
and Ravenswood are slated by Menlo Park to be clear cut. I understand about the roots encroaching on the garage, but I know there
are always work arounds. Whether it s a parking structure or a house foundation there is a way to save the trees as we have at our
home. The problematic roots can be identified and cut, or placing a low cost steel lining on the parking garage ceiling.I know
there are 3 options on the table for the Ravenswood train by-pass and I would hope this is not a preemptive strike to smooth the
way for the overpass, that is not needed. These are not just trees, they are iconic redwoods that welcome every visitor to the
downtown. They are adorned with lights at Christmas and are an unbelievably beautiful sight. They represent Menlo Park and its
effort to maintain a green environment amongst its overbuilt peninsula neighbors of Redwood City and Mountain View.Replacing these
majestic redwoods with 2 or 3 or even 10 small trees will not have any where near the impact or the CO2 consumption, Over a large
redwood tree lifetime it will remove over 1000 metric tonnes of CO2. The longer they live the more these enormous trees do for our
environment. Please save the trees and let me know if there is anything else I can do to support the case to save them. Thanks,
Charles. .
