Dear City Council and Staff,
I’m writing to urge you to oppose the proposed RV Parking Ordinance that would displace residents who are living in vehicles in our city. These people are some of our most vulnerable residents. They are human beings; they are our neighbors; they are our people.
Please consider the intent and likely outcome of the proposed ordinance carefully. What are the benefits we hope to achieve from the ordinance? To whom do they accrue? What is the likely outcome for the vehicle dwelling residents? How are we ensuring their immediate health and safety? Longer term, how will displacement affect their socio-economic prospects, their educational attainment, their mental and physical health?
Please delay action on this proposal until we have a better understanding of the benefits and costs. Please consider commissioning a study of the impacts to public safety, public health, and racial equity. Please be a voice for care and compassion. Let’s act together and support all of our neighbors.
With appreciation for your leadership,
Karen Grove
