Dear Councillors,
As you may know, the Planning Commission is currently considering a
proposal to build a Hampton Inn at the north end of the city, at 1704 El
Camino Real. I believe it's important for City Council to be aware of
this project, as it appears that Planning Commission Staff's present
view is steering towards a number of unwelcome elements, including
approval of above-ground parking, when all other major projects in the
Downtown Specific Plan use underground parking. Such a step would of
course set a bad precedent. Council also should know that this project's
current bulk and footprint have evoked a petition signed by over 100
area residents. Details of the issues, their background, and a possible
resolution are included in a brief attached letter.
Sincerely,
Frederick Rose, Menlo Park Resident
