Concrete Islands at Corner of 550 Oak Grove Avenue

Dear City Council Members,

Last Saturday night (December 30, 2023, at about 6:10 pm I was driving down Oak Grove Avenue toward Middlefield Road from El Camino Real to meet some out of town guests staying in one of the units at 550 Oak Grove Avenue. It was dark and raining very hard. At 550 Oak Grove Avenue, I attempted to make a left hand turn to pick up our guests.

Without warning, I hit an unknown and unseen object, went over it, and probably damaged the alignment in my car. I was traveling less than 2 mph while making the turn. I had NO idea what I had hit! Upon turning around facing back toward Oak Grove, I could see with my headlights the object shown in the photos attached.

Needless to say, I am furious! NO lights, NO signs, NO Warning suggesting that there was an object in the road baring the left hand turn which was totally invisible due to the darkness and rain!!!!

In looking at the photographs, I can see NO, and I mean NO, reason for this obstacle! What’s the purpose????? Please explain!!!!

I will be getting the front end of my car assessed next week for misalignment and am prepared to send the front end alignment assessment and repair bill to the city for reimbursement.

Angry and Sad,

Fred Smith
