Request for Equity in Community Programs

Dear City Council Members,
I am writing to request greater equity for our community in East Menlo Park. Over the past several months, I have submitted suggestions and comments, but progress has been slow.
It has now been seven months since the Meta Platform Community Campus opened, yet the number of classes available for working adults and East Menlo Park residents remains limited. This is concerning, particularly because the City Council of Menlo Park has promised equity for East Menlo Park—an area composed mostly of non-White residents. However, the numbers suggest otherwise, as West Menlo Park has significantly more classes and resources available.
It is easy to ignore equity pledges during times where parts of society remain hostile toward non-White communities, but the City Council has a responsibility to ensure fairness and inclusion regardless of the current climate. I do not know whether this disparity is due to a lack of funding or prioritization, but the outcome remains the same: East Menlo Park continues to be underserved.
I have previously met with Mayor Cecilia Taylor and Councilmember Maria Doerr, and I attended the last City Council meeting where the new building was dedicated to Meta. While progress was discussed during that meeting, many of us in East Menlo Park still do not see or feel the improvements that were promised.
As someone who has lived in East Menlo Park for 24 years, I care deeply about my community and its access to opportunities. I urge you to take meaningful action to ensure that East Menlo Park residents are given the equitable resources and programming they deserve.
Thank you for your time and attention to this important matter.
Sincerely,

Eduardo
