Mayor Combs, Vice Mayor Nash and City Council Members:
I serve on the Planning Commission and am submitting this comment as an individual.
I am writing in support of the City taking the steps, as recommended by staff, towards creating affordable housing on city owned parking lots 1, 2, 3.
I am concerned about the livability of our communities - people being able to live in our community, and the resilience and sustainability of how our communities are developed and in turn, how that impacts our lives.
Through a sustainability and climate lens, infill development is one of the most effective strategies to reduce our environmental footprint (that is my brain talking).
And, from my heart, I am grateful to be able to live in a part of Menlo Park that is walkable - to public transit; to downtown with shopping and dining; to the civic center where we can participate in our local government and where we can enjoy the park, library, and activities with our 2 kids. I am excited to see our city build upon this, to transform asphalt into affordable homes, to meet the needs and concerns of local residents and businesses while welcoming diversity into the heart of our community and addressing change with creativity.
Thank you.
