Carol Broadbent: Opposing 1704 ECR

Dear Commissioners, I live at 174 Buckthorn Way which is part of the Park Forest development in Menlo Park. I am writing again about the proposed expansion of the Hampton Inn project that is adjacent to our Park Forest community. I think the plans of the developer, Mr. Patel, do not support the goals of our community and of Menlo Park as a whole. I have written to you before on this topic with the same point of view. I have written in opposition to this project, as it is currently conceived, to The Almanac numerous times last year. And, I attended the last Planning Commission hearing on this topic in solidarity with my immediate Park Forest neighbors who oppose the current plan. My neighbors Susan Neville, Fred Rose and Peter Carpenter have made numerous compelling arguments against proceeding with Mr. Patel’s plans. It’s particularly egregious to our community that somehow this project is worthy of a public benefit bonus. There’s no basis for it, particularly since we have made it very clear how many aspects of Mr. Patel’s plan will negatively impact the quality of life of our community. We are a 50+ year old community of families living in an area that is designated as a low-density zone. There is no justification for the City commissioners to support Mr. Patel’s current plan which will result in a large, and noisy, commercial structure being erected mostly in the rear of his lot which puts it squarely into, not just adjacent to, our homes. Respectfully, Carol Broadbent Received on Fri Jun 21 2019 - 09:01:37 PDT
