Honorable City Council and Staff,
I live in Linfield Oaks, just 1/2 mile south of the Parkline Project (SRI Campus Redevelopment site).
Its a delightful neighborhood to live in, in large part were just a short walk or bike ride away from Burgess Park, the Menlo Park Main Library, Caltrain, the Sunday Farmers market, and Trader Joes.
Its also an economically diverse neighborhood--home to a mix of single-family homes, duplexes, apartment buildings, townhomes, and condominiums.
I want to express my support for the updated Parkline project variant--a proposal for 800 new homes--with a generous percentage of BMR homes--in such a resource-rich location!
This proposal will help ensure that Menlo Park fulfills its mandate to build many hundreds of affordable homes in the 2023-2031 housing plan cycle. And it fulfills the citys commitment to site affordable housing in areas *outside of D1.*
The Parkline variant is right-sized because of its size and location. It is comparable in area to Willow Village, where were planning for more than twice the number of homes. And SRI/Parkline is actually a *better* location for housing because of its proximity to transit and downtown.
Moreover, SRI and Parkline have demonstrated that they are willing partners for a mixed-income housing development, which is, unfortunately, rare.
I appreciate that the developer has sought community input over the course of many months and has made a number of changes in response to that feedback.
I hope the city will support this variant for more housing--and more affordable housing--on the SRI/Parkline site.
Thank you,
Katherine Dumont
Menlo Park (D3) resident
