Trash on county highways

Mme. Mayor and Council Members,

Former Mayor Rich Garbarino has publicly called for all Peninsula mayors to collectively send a message to Caltrans asking that our local highways be cleaned and kept clean on a continuous basis (Daily Journal, February 17). It's sad that Caltrans should need such instruction, but the maintenance of our roadways has been largely neglected since the 2001 economy prompted cities and agencies statewide to severely reduce costs. Those days are long gone, but much of the money once committed to our roadways is still missing from budgets. All that chipped paint at the front of your car are one result.

Mayor Garbarino isn’t asking that much. In fact, even if clean, our roadways are worse than many third world countries. How have we so lowered our expectations? What happened to Quality of Life?

Please join the call for a better Caltlralns effort by writing the letter Mayor Garbarino suggests.

Respectfully,

Henry Riggs
