Dear Menlo Park City Council Members:
I am a resident of District 5, and write to express my strong support of Sally Cole’s appointment to Ray Mueller’s soon-to-be-vacated Council seat.
I have known Sally since our kids became friends at Oak Knoll Elementary almost ten years ago, and Sally and I served as fellow room parents. It was in that context that I first became struck by her genuine kindness, inclusivity, and respect for all members of the Menlo Park community, regardless of race/ethnicity, socioeconomic background, family composition, or political stripe.
Sally is organized, a consensus-builder, and approaches problems and processes with intellectual rigor, compassion, diplomacy, and creativity. She has worked in many highly visible roles, in both the public and private sectors, on novel, complex issues with many important constituents (some voiceless and others very vocal) whose needs must be taken into account, and I believe has demonstrated over decades and a wide variety of settings her ability to harmonize and optimize positive outcomes for all. I believe that her ability to grapple with difficult issues and mobilize teams and resources to get things done, combined with her excellent communication skills and empathy, would make her an excellent Council member who would also inspire trust and confidence.
