Dear Honorable Members of the Menlo Park City Council:
I write in reference to the proposed use permit for the new business at 961 El Camino Real.
I appreciate your efforts to assure the vibrant nature of Menlo Park, including the development of new ventures that contribute to the social and economic health of our community. The proposed business at 916 El Camino might certainly be a plus in that regard.
However, I am concerned about neighborhood impacts of an entertainment business with live music and alcohol sales that stays open till 2am every day of the week. I ask you to consider whether sufficient consideration has been given to the interests of Menlo Park residents who live immediately in that area. Have those neighbors been given adequate notice about the change in use, so that they could respond? Was there anything like an environmental impact report done that evaluates the noise, traffic, safety and other impacts of the proposed new business?
Especially with the new housing development and new residents moving into the other side of El Camino, this business could be attractive to many. But let’s make sure it’s not also an attractive nuisance that threatens the quality of life for some of our neighbors.
