Support of New Libraries

Dear City Council Members,

I am writing to lend my support to the plan to build new 21st Century Libraries in our City. I have been a resident of Menlo Park for 18 years and raised my children with weekly trips to the Menlo Park Library. I am passionate about the role of the public library in a vibrant community and strongly believe that we should build both a Central library in the City Center. Additionally, I believe it is a necessity that Menlo Park build a library in the Belle Haven community that is independent of the current school library which does not adequately serve the needs of the community. I have toured libraries in other communities, attended events related to the efforts in Menlo Park, and most recently been appointed to serve as on our city's Library Commission. Through all of these experiences, I have come to believe that a new central library, and a new Belle Haven library are essential to the health of our city.

Our community deserves and requires a modern library system able to meet the demands and needs of our growing city. Our children deserve a library that is as up to date in technology and innovation as our region is known for globally. Our teens deserve an inviting and adequate space to study and congregate after school. Our civic and community groups deserve space to hold meetings and functions. All of these needs can and will be met if we build a new library system for our community.

I am grieved to miss your meeting on Tuesday, August 21st, but I will be on a trip to drop my two youngest children off at their respective colleges. Although my three children are now grown and about to be gone from Menlo Park, I am enthusiastic about the possibility of a 21st Century Library system in Menlo Park for coming generations.

Thank you,
Katie Hadrovic
