Housing in downtown parking lots

As a long time Menlo Park resident, I like to provide some feedback and ask you for a formal response. I hear a lot of conversations regarding businesses in the downtown area and advantages of building affordable housing in the area, however, I have not heard any feedback from the city officials on how they plan to address traffic congestion.

All eastbound streets between Valparaiso and Ravenswood and on El Camio between Middle and Valparaiso from 11 to 2 and 3:30 to 6 are very congested. It takes 25 - 30 mins to cross El Camino within a less than a mile stretch.

Building more housing worsens the traffic. Have you looked at this issue? What kind of public transportation solution do you have? Bus stops are not conveniently located (only available in downtown and not westbound) and infrequent. Outside of rush hour, the train is only available on an hourly basis, it takes a long time to get to one’s destination, and not very affordable for a roundtrip commute.

Please respond with your plans to address traffic congestion for the extra housing.

Thank you,
