Hello,
I am a business owner of a therapy practice in downtown Menlo Park and a mother of a child at school off Santa Cruz. I recently became aware of this housing parking lot proposal.
I ask that you strongly reconsider this option. Parking is already tight and unpleasant in the area. I usually circle around when visiting Trader Joe’s and sometimes have to leave due to no available spots.
This project would negatively impact all our businesses. In the short term with the influx of construction and traffic and in the long term with an increase of congestion, low parking, and new residents that most likely would not be frequenting the high end businesses in the area- how can they add to commerce or vibrancy if they are low income?
Downtown Menlo is a safe place for many school children in the area to ride bikes back and forth. We pay good money to have our businesses and homes here and many high end private school tuitions- all of these would see a drop in economic value.
Consider using Flood park instead or unused industrial buildings.
This decision could forever change the small town and homey feel of downtown Menlo.
If so many businesses and residents are complaining, why are you even considering this option? I trust that you all can find a way that works with the tax payers who vote and contribute to the community.
