Comment on Agenda Item H1

Dear Mayor Combs and Menlo Park City Councilmembers:

I’m writing to support building homes on Menlo Park’s downtown parking lots.

I live in Los Altos and we are going through a similar process in our downtown area with parking lots designated as surplus land. I wholly believe that building more density in downtown areas (both in Los Altos and Menlo Park) will ensure economic stability for the future of these downtowns. People need places to live, and businesses need both customers and employees. Menlo Park has a beautiful downtown with great retail and restaurants, and access to transit and amenities. You can maintain its vibrancy by building housing.

Our region is interconnected and all of our cities need to fulfill their responsibilities to create more housing. Even though I live in Los Altos, I spend time in Menlo Park, as well as other neighboring cities, visiting your shops, restaurants, and neighborhoods. By promoting housing on the downtown parking lots, Menlo Park can be part of a bigger solution to ensure everyone has a safe, stable place to call home.

Sincerely,

Daphne Ross
