Dear Members of the City Council:
I have lived on Concord Drive for more than 20 years. While this area was at one time a quiet neighborhood with minimal traffic; that is not the case now. Woodland Avenue is used daily as a shortcut to Highway 101to avoid University Avenue. While the usage has increased the road improvements have remained fixed for over 20 years. Specifically the area from Baywood to Lexington has so many deep ruts in it that it is unsafe for both young and adult bikers. I have seen and experienced near-misses just walking to Willow Market or accessing Palo Alto. I too have instructed our temporary dog walker never to walk our dog on Woodland Avenue.
This can be remedied with the new resurfacing project that I understand is to take place this year. The Transportation Master Plan has set forth common sense safety measures (Menlo Park Walkway Standards CG-1) for walkways that address the very biker/ pedestrian problems our neighborhood faces with Woodland Avenue.
I would urge the members of the City Council to follow their Master Plan for the safety of the children and adults in the Willows.
Sincerely,
Moira Ackley
