As a Menlo Park resident for 25 years, I have come to appreciate the downtown as a vital resource and one that is part of the community. If there was housing close to downtown I would want to move there because that is the soul of the city, and it will only get better with more people actually living there.
Also, it is important to optimize the entire city of Menlo Park and put the housing in the best area for the city at large, and not try to spread the housing out like peanut butter. The best place to start, and the best place period, is clearly the downtown area! It is near the train station, shopping, restaurants, doctors, and employment. The density will draw amenities and drive down traffic. Downtown city vitality may come back!
I support affordable housing everywhere. Let’s start with Downtown.
