Hi, Council
I look forward to be able to use a swimming pool in my own neighborhood.
As far as ‘hyperlocal’ fees, our neighborhood has a mix of incomes. If it can be done without embarrassing anyone, there should be a way to pay either the discounted or the non-discounted amount.
As far as hours, the Belle Haven Pool needs to be open to the Belle Haven community all hours that it is open. I don’t want it to be like Burgess Pool, entirely taken up with swim lessons after school and into the evening. Those are the hours when kids who can’t afford swim lessons need recreational opportunities. Those are also the hours that adults who use Burgess Pool are barred from it and some of those adults are really unhappy about being relegated to only early or late hours. Belle Haven elders who want to get water exercise, like all elders, often don’t feel safe navigating after dark, and should have access all hours that the pool is open.
Hyperlocality isn’t just about cost, its also about real-time availability to the hyperlocal people.
All the best
