No Through Traffic Signs

Dear City Council, I would like to thank you and staff for installing the 'No Through Traffic' sign at the Middlefield / Woodland junction; hopefully, it'll mitigate somewhat the heavy through traffic we experience on Woodland. I hope in future that you extend signeage to other troublesome streets in the Willows. I understand that City feels that the sign is, however, unenforceable because it discriminates against certain people (commuters). You can counter the unenforceability argument simply by adding the additional line 'To Willow Avenue' and/or 'To University Avenue'. Then, Willows residents, guests, and servicepeople stopping at residences/businesses within the neighborhood would not be in violation, whereas commuters directly transiting the neighborhood would. If further monitoring is required, license-plate cameras teamed path-analysis software could flag repeat offenders for citation. One more comment: the Woodland/Middlefield intersection is dangerous; there is a short line of sight to oncoming automobiles from Palo Alto. A bulb-out into Woodland from the Palo Alto side, plus crosswalks would both slow turns onto Woodland and make it safer for pedestrians to cross into North Palo Alto.
