Dear Mayor Combs and City Council Members,
I see that tonight’s agenda includes an Information Item regard Transportation Demand Management (TDM) based on work providing by a consultant for Staff and Council. Implementation of a TDM is an important measure that encompasses climate action (greenhouse gas reduction by enabling alternative forms of mobility that are competitive to or superior to use of a single occupant vehicle), reduction of traffic congestion, and equity (enabling easier use of all means of transportation regardless of where a person lives or works within Menlo Park).
I’m so pleased to see this initiative moving forward toward an actionable proposal. While there could be advantages to Menlo Park forming a TDM within the City, the subregional approach favored by the consultant holds many advantages (since, as an example, El Camino Real does not stop at either our north or south boundary!) and I am very pleased that the consultant is suggesting a set of approaches within this framework.
I would like to see your guidance from this Information session include continued collaboration with Manzanita Works, as they are coordinating the formation of the subregional TDM that would encompass Menlo Park. Your support will enable staff to provide due diligence and to develop an actionable proposal concerning potential measures and collaboration.
Many thanks,
Mitch Slomiak
Menlo Park Resident
