COMMENT ON MIDDLE AVENUE PARKING
The ban on parking may be having an impact on parking for seniors at Little House, many of whom have mobility problems. Little House has a big sign stating that the parking in front of the facility is for Little House only until 3 p.m. M-F. This restriction is ignored.
In the early morning many of the parking spots in the restricted area are taken by people with dogs who use the adjacent dog park, even though there are open spots adjacent to the tennis courts.
In the later morning and early afternoon the restricted parking area is used by women with children in strollers going to the playground. Several times people in their 80s and 90s, some with walkers, have to walk the length of the parking lot to get to Little House.
On Thursday, May 2 around 1:15 there was a young man who had parked his late model, shiny, purplish McLaren (which I think sells for about $250,000) in one of the clearly marked disabled spots by the Little House front door and he was chatting to a young woman (also parked by the front door) who had small children with her. When I told him to move his car he responded by revving the engine loudly and refusing to move.
I am 85 and can walk a fair distance, but many are not so fortunate. Frequently seniors circle the parking lot hoping to find a space near to the door.
There may be no direct correlation between the prohibition of parking along Middle Ave and the propensity for young people to park in the restricted area, but there is definitely a problem for seniors at Little House. Hopefully the City could connect with PVI to see what could be done to ameliorate the problem.
