Dear MP City Council Members,
I have lived on San Mateo Drive for 30 years, and I am writing to express STRONG OPPOSITION TO ALL-WAY STOP SIGNS AT MIDDLE AVE AND SAN MATEO DRIVE, AS IT WILL NOT CALM TRAFFIC BUT MAKE IT WORSE!
Stop signs back traffic up and do not let it flow. The result is excessive noise, gunning of engines as the cars have to stop and start and increased pollution. Moreover, the stop signs are present 24 hours a day, 7 days a week causing traffic to start and the re-start, when the only times traffic is a concern on Middle at San Mateo Drive is during the morning and evening. If the goal is to make crossing Middle Avenue safer then why not add a lighted crosswalk which has proven very effective on Santa Cruz Ave? I walk and ride my bike every day and crossing Middle Avenue has never been a concern!! The proposal for a stop sign is overkill and will negatively impact traffic flow. It is a solution looking for a problem!!
Please vote AGAINST THE ALL-WAY STOP SIGNS AT MIDDLE AVE AND SAN MATEO DRIVE.
