I understand that the City Council will be considering a proposed RV ban ordinance tonight. I wanted to share some resources for the Council to consider as they deliberate:
Numerous cities in California have been sued over their RV bans, including Mountain View, Sebastopol, and San Diego. These lawsuits highlight the ways in which such bans may infringe upon the rights of community members. San Francisco also recently attempted to enact an RV ban, which has been opposed by community groups.
Further, as noted in LCCRSFs 2019 report, Towed into Debt, towing vehicles parked for more than 72 hours—particularly without prior notice—raises serious constitutional concerns and is counterproductive, as cities often lose money on such tows.
