Opposed to the insane plan to remove parking in downtown - local resident

Hi there,
I have lived in Menlo Park for 14 years and have raised three children here.
I live near downtown and frequent Coffee Bar, Draegers and many other local establishments near Santa Cruz.
I have watched the businesses on Santa Cruz and in downtown suffer through the pandemic.
I have also visited towns such as Burlingame which seem to have more vibrant downtowns than we do.
The plan to convert parking into high density low-income housing in the area near Santa Cruz strikes me as insanely self-destructive.
I have no doubt that if the residents of Menlo Park had a chance to vote on this, we would vote NO overwhelmingly.
The idea that these parkins lots, which are often quite full, are somehow surplus, is obviously false. You should be ashamed for making that declaration to begin with.
The downtown merchants need our support. This will make their lives worse. It will also make life worse for the people who already live here and already pay taxes here.
You are supposed to be representing the people (voters) who already live here. Nobody voted for this and we dont want it.
Please listen to the people who live here and abandon this self-destructive idea.
I will be showing up on January 14 to loudly complain in person, and I will encourage friends and neighbors to do so as well.
Thank you,
David Golob
