Councilmembers:
I am writing in support of building new affordable homes on city-owned parking lots downtown.
Since I first moved to Menlo Park in 1986, I have seen how difficult it has become for some who work in our community to live here. Access to affordable, safe homes will allow those who work in Menlo Park (and support the quality of life of those who already
live here) to avoid long commutes and also live in our city.
I appreciate and respect the Citys planning process to find ways to comply with state-mandated housing plan and requirement to build nearly 3,000 units of housing in the next six years, and I support the proposal to build homes on city-owned lots downtown.
Adding affordable housing *and replacement parking* downtown takes advantage of a unique opportunity to provide this housing while also making our community more vibrant, walkable, and affordable.
Please vote "yes" to new affordable homes downtown.
