Dear council,
I am the owner of a business downtown. It’s not a retail business but I do see clients daily who enjoy the easy accessibility and parking to get to our office. Our office is located at 873 Santa Cruz Ave. The street closures have no doubt made it more difficult for our clients to come visit us in the office.
Despite these inconveniences, however, I think the street closures and the outdoor dining should stay. It adds to the vibrancy and feel of the downtown, which has been dying a slow death for many years. It’s been a joy to see the downtown come back to life as people slowly make their way back out. I was walking down Santa Cruz Ave this weekend and was pleasantly surprised at how many people were out and about walking and biking down the street and patronizing the businesses there.
We have to start thinking differently if our downtown is to survive. We have to find ways to divert car traffic and encourage pedestrians. Think big. Be bold. Be brave.
Please do not reopen the streets on Santa Cruz Ave.
