Re: Aquacize at Burgess

Thanks for the news Kathy. I researched the lease agreement with Tim and it is clearly stated that the city mandated that the pool be available to all segments of the community whatever their abilities or age.
I also think that Tim may be missing a sizeable marketing opportunity. The documents I looked at showed that there has been a marked decline in kids coming to the pool, causing revenue losses. There is a gigantic market for seniors, who make up a large proportion of the current population. Orthopaedic surgeons, Cardiologists and other experts advise water exercises for their patients. Until recently the Betty Wright Foundation offered such classes. I believe that Sheralee Beebe was a skilled provider at that facility. Anyone in her Menlo Park classes can attest to the skill, body knowledge and significant benefits that she provides. I have been coming to aquacize classes at Burgess and other facilities for well over 30 years (and have been swimming since a toddler) and can personally attest to the benefit of Sheralee's classes that far exceeded any other class that I took at Burgess or elsewhere.
I think that Tim has done an outstanding job of managing the pools but would hope that he look at the requirements and potential market for people who really need the pool. Athletes like Tim and kids have other opportunities for sports and recreation, but aged, post surgical or disabled folks have limited opportunities and pool therapy is a Godsend. Even athletes sometimes suffer sprains, ACL tears etc. that could benefit from water therapy. I also believe that pregnant women find aquacize helpful.
If and when the city has some money, it would be nice if the access doors to the facility at Burgess could be made ADA compliant. I also wonder whether the wading pool could be made to accommodate lessons for tiny kids rather than the steps of the warm pool, because so often the kids are screaming with fear and panic.

Hi Janet,

I just got out of a meeting with Tim and he had some updates about Water Exercise. We have been working on the schedule and plan for how to get the class going and are hoping to bring it back mid to late spring. We will have the classes return in phases so, at first, it won't look like it did when you last had classes. Tim mentioned that it has always been our intention to bring the clases back but we weren't sure how to do that when we were experiencing so many surges and we wanted to keep everyone safe. As you know, the older population was one of the hardest hit by the virus and we have been very conservative in our decisions because of this.

We will let you know more details as we get closer to offering the classes.

Kind regards,
Kathy

Registration System Update

As we have mentioned the past few months we have been working to replace our registration software. At this time we unfortunately need to postpone our release of this software until early fall due to a few system deliverables that are not compatible with our current operations. We are currently working with the developers to complete these items. We will update you as we get closer to the launch on our progress to get our new system in place.

We know that our current system has challenges. We are working on getting our current system ready for use for our spring and summer programing. We are committed to improving and making registrations for our entire community as functional and as user-friendly as possible. We look forward to this summer and look forward to serving you the best we can.
