Dear Mayor Taylor, dear council member, I would like to propose using the empty storefronts in Menlo Park for creative activities, artist studios, galleries, and art-related offices. This could attract potential commercial tenants, increase foot traffic and put Menlo Park on the map as an arts town. It would require 90-day, no-rent leases to creative businesses with the option for successive 90-day renewal. Creative businesses are individual artists/art teams, nonprofit arts organizations, for-profit creative entrepreneurs/start-up enterprises with missions related to arts and creative industries. They can apply for a store, and it will give them the opportunity to utilize these empty retail spaces in innovative and imaginative ways. This will also grow interest and awareness of the arts and expand people“s understanding and appreciation of creative ventures. Much needed in Silicon Valley. Please let me know if I should formally introduce this project. Menlo Park Public Art is happy to run this project with your support.
